The new Renault Austral will share its platform with the Nissan Qashqai, so it’s highly likely that the engines will be shared as well.

This would mean a selection of 1.3-litre petrol engines with mild hybrid technology to boost efficiency.

The Austral may also make use of the hybrid system found in the Renault Captur. This comprises a 1.6-litre petrol engine paired with two electric motors to make 142Hp.

I just have my new car on march 2024 the engine sounds like diesel truck very loud and embarrassing me for brand new car should be like that . When I went back to the dealer they said they are aware of the problem but they don’t know what to do. Not good enough

The loud noise is only for 1 minute max on my car. The engine regenerates power to the battery, sounds like a generator, and this is what it is... I don't like the noise either, but the rest of the car is fab. (apart from the spark plugs issue)

My dealership is fairly quiet, it's the engine that is loud apparently.

My wife was sitting in the car with the engine running as I walked up to the rear of the car.
The engine note was a Tinny hollow popping sound, reminiscent of a small boat/barge engine noise as it putt putts into the water. The 3 cylinder engine Is not the sweetest sounding block that's for sure.

The 1.3L 4 cylinder version engine which can be found on the smaller horse powered sized Mild Hybrid versions on the continent, is similar to it's Qashqai cousin 1.3 dig-t that I had in my 2020 Qashqai which apparently Renault and Nissan share. Alas the 1.2 L turbo is only available in the UK for us.
I may be far from accurate here and I will be happy to be proven wrong, but I feel this engine is going to rattle a little as it gets older. At the moment it's fairly smooth.
